5th Annual Special Education Network in Asia Conference
23- 26 November 2006
Hosted by Special Education Network in Asia (SENIA) and English Schools Foundation, Hong Kong
Venue: English Schools Foundation, 250 Victoria Road Pokfulam, Hong Kong
40 educators attended this workshop. The group was fortunte to be able to visit the Special Needs Departments in 2 other Hong Kong Schools.
Keynote Speech- "Recent developments in SEN in international schools" by Jenny Reed (IBO Cardiff- Special Needs Advisor)
Workshops included:
- Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy for Special Needs teachers; what teachers can do in these areas and when teachers should seek professional help.
- Use of interactive whiteboards with children with special needs
- Diagnostic Assessment for students with learning support needs
- Overview of catering for diversity in Hong Kong schools successful inclusive practices
- Post 16 options for students with special needs. An overview of post compulsory curriculum within the context of an IB school
SENIA makes a point of asking its members to present workshops as it is within our schools where much of the expertise lies. The workshops above were presented by teachers, lecturers from a HK university as well as specialist staff such as speech therapists.
