If notification of cancellation from a registered participant is received:

  • 30 days or more prior to a conference or workshop - 80% of registration fee is refunded
  • Between 15-29 days prior to a conference or workshop - 40% of registration fee is refunded
  • Less than 15 days prior to a conference or workshop - no refund


In the unlikely event of cancellation of the conferences and workshops due to circumstances beyond our control, we will give full refund of the registration fees. However, we will unable to refund any travel, visa or accommodation expenses incurred from registering the conferences and/or workshops.

Dr. Lorena Mancilla

Lorena Mancilla is the Director of WIDA Early Years. Her background as a bilingual educator, her passion for working with language learners and their families, and her experience with WIDA allows Lorena to make the purpose and use of language standards and assessments comprehensible to educators, administrators, and families of language learners. Her expertise in working with families of language learners launched family engagement initiatives at WIDA. She is also a core member of the Spanish language development (SLD) team where she contributes to projects and professional development focused on the WIDA SLD Standards and supporting children and youth in bilingual early childhood and K-12 settings. When she first joined WIDA in 2010, she was a member of the professional development team and her focus was facilitating workshops on English language standards, assessments, and data analysis. Lorena completed her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Dr. Tim Boals

Tim Boals is the Executive Director of the WIDA Consortium. He holds a Ph.D. in curriculum from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with an emphasis in the education of English language learners. His background includes language education, educational policy for ELLs, and Spanish language and literature. As the WIDA Executive Director, Tim oversees operations and long-range planning efforts. He serves on the WIDA Research Subcommittee and his research interests involve the interplay between content and language learning for English language learners across the language acquisition continuum and the effects of standards on classroom practice for these learners. He has recently collaborated on articles about re-conceptualization of academic language and the evolving construct of English language testing, the books "Multilingual Learners and Academic Literacies" and "Formative Language Assessment for ELLs," and a book chapter on supporting ELLs with special needs. Tim frequently presents at national and regional conferences on the challenges facing ELLs and how schools and educators can better meet their needs.
