Dear ACAMIS Community Members

A little over one year ago I was delighted to share the exciting news that the ACAMIS Board had confirmed the appointment of Rhonda Norris as our association’s new Executive Director, commencing her appointment in August 2023. Today I write to share the disappointing news that Rhonda has unfortunately withdrawn from the assignment and therefore will not be joining our Executive Office as anticipated.

Rhonda has been the Head of School at the Anglo American School of Moscow for the past several years, firstly having to deal with an extremely challenging redefinition of the school’s legal status in Russia, and then, just a few weeks after accepting an assignment with ACAMIS, confronting the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The significant stresses and challenges associated with leading her school and community through this extraordinarily disruptive and appalling affair have unfortunately resulted in Rhonda determining that she is no longer in a position to commit her full energies to our association. The ACAMIS Board of Directors, while very disappointed to learn that Rhonda will not be joining the ACAMIS community, is nevertheless very understanding and supportive of Rhonda’s changing circumstances and consequent decision, and wishes her every success as she negotiates the difficulties that her current school and community continue to face.

On a very positive note, however, Tom Ulmet, our long serving and greatly respected Executive Director has agreed to continue on in his role until such time that a suitable replacement for Rhonda can be identified and appointed. The ACAMIS Board had been preparing to acknowledge and celebrate Tom’s wonderful service to ACAMIS at the upcoming leadership conference in Guangzhou, but I am delighted that we can now suspend this celebration for another year! On behalf of the ACAMIS Board of Directors and community, I wish to extend our sincere thanks to Tom for once again giving such precedence to the diverse interests and needs of our ACAMIS community of schools. A new search for an Executive Director to succeed Tom will be launched before the end of the current school year.

All good things to you Rhonda, and thank you Tom!
