Announcement of Appointment of New ACAMIS Executive Director
Monday 10 January 2022
Dear ACAMIS Heads of School,
May I begin by welcoming you all to 2022; I hope that you are all feeling well and well rested having enjoyed the festive season and holiday.
The main purpose for this message is to share with you all the exciting news that the ACAMIS Board of Directors has confirmed the appointment of a new Executive Director to replace Tom Ulmet when he steps down from the role in Summer 2023.
The response to the opening was extremely positive, reflecting the significant and growing status of our wonderful association under Tom’s dedicated stewardship these past eight years (not to mention his five additional earlier years as a Board member!) An assortment of high quality candidates submitted applications to the selection committee, but in the end one candidate stood out noticeably from those identified for interview, and the Board of Directors is pleased to have been able to confirm her selection and appointment.
On behalf of the Board of Directors I am therefore delighted to announce the appointment of Rhonda Norris to the position of ACAMIS Executive Director, effective 1 August 2023. Rhonda is an outstanding candidate in all possible regards, with significant senior leadership experience in highly reputable international schools in our region and around the world. Rhonda brings the passion, vision, interpersonal skills, and strategic and operational experience and expertise needed to fulfill the demands of such a challenging position (and to replace someone with Tom’s remarkable ability and reputation!)
By way of very brief introduction, Rhonda is currently the Head of School at the Anglo-American School of Moscow, with previous international school experience including
- Head of School - Carol Morgan School in Dominican Republic
- Deputy Head of School - International School of Beijing
- Assistant Head of School - Canadian Academy in Japan
- Assistant Superintendent - Singapore American School
- Director of Finance - American International School of Riyadh
As a Board of Directors we are thrilled to have been able to recruit an educational leader with such relevant experience and with so much ability and potential to continue Tom’s fine work and lead our association into a challenging, though infinitely exciting, future. We are also pleased to have managed to complete this appointment so far in advance, thus allowing for an orderly succession during complex times with the full support of the present E.D., Tom, who will devotedly continue his duties through 31 July 2023. Closer to the end of his tenure we will be sure to find ways in which to celebrate Tom’s immeasurable contributions to our association.
For now, however, our focus is firmly upon celebrating Rhonda’s appointment and welcoming her into the ACAMIS family of schools. Welcome Rhonda – we look forward to seeing you here in China soon!
