COVID-19 revealed to the whole world what many already knew at their core. High levels of achievement don't happen in highly mobile settings (or highly disrupted settings) while ignoring the emotions of the children and adults who are the learners-in-transition. At least not without significant loss. No matter how great our outputs or impressive our other metrics, our schools are only success stories if the people inside them flourish. The proposed job-a-like affords participants opportunities to prepare and equip themselves and others (students, parents and staff) for short-term and long-term challenges ahead.
 

The job-alike will be presented from the perspective of those who are actually making a transition between educational and social cultures - students, parents and staff. It will focus on how transitions affect one’s sense of identity and belonging. It will explain the various benefits and challenges Cross Cultural Kids/Third Culture Kids may experience as they embrace a global life and it will consider the various stages of the transition cycle, offering insights on what to expect in terms of emotions, practical ways to leave well and enter well, and how and why to address unresolved grief.

What is a Job-Alike?

It is an opportunity to promote collaboration among education professionals with similar job responsibilities to enhance their craft, share knowledge and network regionally. These highly intensive learning sessions provide an opportunity to share resources, information and engage in discussions and planning that will immediately benefit their schools. 

Target Audience:  

This job-alike is for anyone with a responsibility for planning, facilitating or supporting transitions-care in their school.

Language:   English

Time Requirement:    2 hours, plus 1-hour reading before the job-a-like

Breakout Stands:   There will be 2 facilitators for this job-a-like, each will facilitate a discussion on 1 of 4 topics:

  • Strategies for nurturing identity and belonging
  • Practical ways to leave well and enter well
  • How and why to address unresolved grief
  • How to ensure we include leavers, stayers, and arrivers in addressing transitions

Post Meeting Activity:    All participants will be provided with an E-Showbag including resources referenced and more information on Professional Development opportunities. 

Certificate Course:      2 hours of professional learning

Meeting Time:    15:00 - 17:00 Hong Kong Time Zone (China Standard Time)

Meeting Software:             Zoom for Audio/Video and Teams for file sharing

Access to Recordings:     Included for registrants and available in Teams for 1 year

Space is limited to 60 people to ensure interactive and productive dialog. A school campus may only send 4 people. If a school has multiple campuses it may send 4 people per campus. A campus may be considered the Primary, Middle and Secondary school sections of a school if those sections don’t share responsibilities or budget for leadership development.

Emails related to this Online PD Program will be sent from events@pdacademia.comPlease immediately add this email sender to your safe sender list.

Approximately 2-weeks before the start of the course, participants will be emailed a course introduction, instructions for how to participate and a pre-course survey and readings, if applicable.  If you do not receive this email please let us know.

REGISTRATION FEE / SPONSORSHIP FEE REFUND POLICY

If notice of cancellation re the registered participant/sponsor is received:

  • 30+ days pre-event: 80% of fee is refundable
  • 15-29 days pre-event: 40% of fee is refundable
  • Less than 15 days pre-event: no refund

Online PD Programs - No refund will be granted re participants commencing an online PD program and withdrawing part way through. Course material fees (re DiSC surveys, book fees, etc) are not refundable once access is granted.

 

REFUND DUE TO PD EVENT CANCELLATION

In the event of cancellation of a conference, workshop or online PD program, we will fully refund the registration or sponsorship fee(s) paid. However, we will be unable to refund any travel, visa or accommodation expenses incurred or course material fees where access has been granted.
