Supporting continuous teacher growth through instructional coaching is part of many educators’ responsibilities. Beyond positions of instructional coaches, many teacher leaders such as HODs, team and grade level leaders, technology facilitators, learning support educators and of course all administrators work to generate and support a coaching culture. Our students deserve us, as educators, to be the best that we can possibly be and we all deserve coaching support. This five minute video, The Gift of Coaching, https://barkleypd.com/blog/the-gift-of-coaching/, explores why everyone deserves a coach.
Hosted by Steve Barkley, who has over 35 years of experience coaching teachers, administrators and instructional coaches, you will examine these topics:
- What’s my role and how do I communicate it? - https://barkleypd.com/blog/the-coaching-balance/
- Coaching Teachers at Different Developmental Stages- https://barkleypd.com/blog/matching-coaching-actions-teachers-developmental-stages/
- Creating a Culture of Coaching- https://barkleypd.com/blog/a-culture-of-coaching-part-1/
Each of these topics will receive a short “setting the stage” from Steve and be followed with small group breakout conversations and explorations. Debriefing and exploring questions with the whole group will work to extend our learning from each other.
What is a job-alike?
It is an opportunity to promote collaboration among education professionals with similar job responsibilities to enhance their craft, share knowledge and network regionally. These highly intensive learning sessions provide an opportunity to share resources, information and engage in discussions and planning that will immediately benefit their schools.
Target Audiences:
Instructional Coaches, Principals, Deputy Principals, Heads of Faculty, Coordinators and Teacher Leaders
Breakout Strands:
There will be 3 breakout sessions, one for each of the main topics. Participants will be surveyed in advance of the Job-Alike to identify any questions they have related to each topic that can then be explored during the breakout sessions.
