If notification of cancellation from a registered participant is received:

  • 30 days or more prior to a conference or workshop - 80% of registration fee is refunded
  • Between 15-29 days prior to a conference or workshop - 40% of registration fee is refunded
  • Less than 15 days prior to a conference or workshop - no refund


In the unlikely event of cancellation of the conferences and workshops due to circumstances beyond our control, we will give full refund of the registration fees. However, we will unable to refund any travel, visa or accommodation expenses incurred from registering the conferences and/or workshops.

Leading in Your Role - HR Managers

Our Goal: At the end of this two-day workshop, participants will gain an in-depth understanding of how Human Resources practitioners contribute to the school's success by acting as a vital business partner. Participants will be introduced to the key competencies, skills and tools HR practitioners require to help them play a strategic role in schools.

Our Ideal Audience: Human Resource Managers, Business Managers and any other operational staff involved in the recruitment, administration and/or evaluation of non-academic staff.

Welcome to the Human Resource Managers' workshop!

The Human Resource Management role in International School's, across Asia, is evolving quickly. As International Schools have grown in Asia, so have the responsibilities of the HR Manager. Historically, HR personnel, were largely in charge of personnel management issues related to overseeing Non-Academic staff, visas, housing and reimbursements. In Asia, especially, the HR role has always been looked upon as needing to be a generalist, ready to step into any personnel, issues that may impact expat teaching staff's ability to focus on their classroom teaching duties.

This purpose of this workshop is to reconcile the historical biases schools have about HR Management with the reality of the changing market schools are competing in. For schools to successfully navigate and overcome challenges related to personnel, such as recruitment, orientation, performance management and legal compliance, schools will need to embrace the HR Manager as a strategic partner.

This will be an interactive workshop providing fundamental HR Management tools and templates for:

  • Identifying the skills and knowledge to be a Strategic Business Partner,
  • Understanding how to influence school senior leadership,
  • Recruiting and selecting the right people with the right skills,
  • Effectively managing non-academic staff's performance to maximize business outcomes.

Participants will engage in activities and discussions to identify practical applications for the theory and case studies introduced over the two days. The facilitator will offer examples and case studies from her own experience demonstrating the benefits changes in HR practices can offer schools. Lastly, participants will work with the facilitator to customize tools and templates introduced throughout the workshop to ensure they are able to present them to senior leadership for immediate adoption.

Speaker Biography:

Katherine Li is an HR Management Professional with progressive HR management experience with Multi-National companies and in the education sector. Katherine holds a Bachelor Degree in English Literature and Master's Degree in Philosophy. She was also awarded an HRMP Certificate by the HR Certification Institute (HRCI). Katherine's Research and Specialities focus on:

  • Talent Acquisition and performance management
  • HR capacity building in change management
  • Compensation and Benefits
  • Employee Relations
  • Human Resources Policy making
  • Coaching in the working place

Katherine's journey in HR Management began 14 years ago as an Associate HR Officer at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) China Office, where she gained a board and comprehensive understanding on all key HR functions. Katherine further progressed her career in the field of HR management at the Foreign Commonwealth Office in China and the British Council China Office as the HR Manager. Believing deeply that the HR function is a strategic business partner for any organization, Katherine has been helping her employers in their endeavor to manage various change programs by contributing to restructure teams, rebuilding competency and behavior framework, consolidating HR policies and optimizing HR transaction procedures. Katherine has a strong passion for the education sector, since 2014 she has been working as the Head of HR at Harrow International School Beijing.
