International School Business Managers are Chief Operating Officers, General Managers, Directors of Operations, Finance and Human Resources. Their titles can vary, but their responsibilities require them to be proficient in the management of human and financial resources to ensure the school’s ‘lights stay on’ and that every member of the school’s community is able to satisfactorily fulfill their responsibilities. If the expectations of the community are left unmet, it will result in higher turnover of staff and loss of families. This in turn directly impacts the school’s ability to flourish in an increasingly competitive private school market.

Successful Business Managers are defined by the performance of the school’s staff to service the community and ensure a safe and active learning community. To realize this awesome responsibility support - staff need to be amply prepared and empowered to effectively do their jobs. A key performance metric for a successful Business Manager would be the development and retention of support staff that are regularly commended by the community on their provisioning of excellent service.

What has been just described is the ideal state that we envision our Business Managers being able to operate in. However, the reality is that schools can be plagued by constant turn-over and ill-equipped staff to support the needs of the community. The Pandemic has made realizing this ideal state even more difficult in that staff are over worked, assuming responsibilities they weren’t hired for and budgets are severely constrained to address the shortage of workers and skills gap.

In this Job-Alike for Business Managers, our presenters will share with peers their experience for how they retain top talent and invest in the development of staff to fill critical skill gaps.

It is an opportunity to promote collaboration among education professionals with similar job responsibilities, broaden their perspective, share knowledge, and network regionally.

This learning session provides an excellent opportunity to share resources/information and engage in discussions and planning that will immediately benefit the participants and their schools.

Why Should I Join?

The first half of the job-alike session is guided discussions. We will address the following issue:

Staying competitive. It’s challenging to internationalize and retain local staff members. How do we equip the team for their roles in international schools? In addition to our full-time staff, there are numerous outsourced operators on campus. How do we prepare and keep employees and outsourced operators motivated?

The second half of the job-alike session is open-ended. Participants choose the topics or issues they would like to talk about that are pertinent to them. For example, participants may choose to discuss “what if the pandemic/epidemic lasts longer? How will the pandemic disrupt the movement of students and foreign teachers?

工作交流坊的下半部分是开放式的讨论。参加者可选择他们希望谈论的与他们相关的主题或话题。例如,参与者可以选择讨论「如果疫情持续时间更长怎么办?疫情会如何影响学生和外籍教师的流动?」等话题。

 

Target Audience 目标人群

This job-alike is for leaders of the non-teaching division of the school, such as, but not limited to, the Business Manager and Directors of Finance, Operations and Human Recourses.

Breakout Strands 分组模式
There will be three moderators for this job-alike, allowing for greater participation and deeper sharing of experience by participants. There will also be multiple opportunities for participants to meet peers by participating in different breakout strands.

此次工作交流坊将有三位主持人,以促进参与和深入交流。参与者也会有更多其他方式与同行交流和沟通。

Certificate Course 课程证书:  3 hours of professional learning, 三小时职业培训

Meeting Time:  9 AM – 12 NOON with 1 x 15-minute break (China Time Zone)

Registration Fee 

  • ACAMIS Members:  100.00 USD per person
  • ACAMIS Member Bulk Registration: 75.00 USD per person when you register a group of 3-5 staff
  • Non-Members:   150.00 USD per person
  • Non-Member Bulk Registration:   100.00 USD per person when you register a group of 3-5 staff

Meeting Software

  • Zomo for audio/videos; MS Teams for file sharing
  • Access to recordings is restricted to registrants and available in MS Teams for one year.



 

IMPORTANT NOTE TO PARTICIPANTS

Emails related to this Online PD Program will be sent from events@pdacademia.comPlease immediately add this email sender to your safe sender list.

Approximately 2-weeks before the start of the course, participants will be emailed a course introduction, instructions for how to participate and a pre-course survey and readings, if applicable.  If you do not receive this email please let us know.



REGISTRATION FEE / SPONSORSHIP FEE REFUND POLICY

If notice of cancellation re the registered participant/sponsor is received:

  • 30+ days pre-event: 80% of fee is refundable
  • 15-29 days pre-event: 40% of fee is refundable
  • Less than 15 days pre-event: no refund

Online PD Programs - No refund will be granted re participants commencing an online PD program and withdrawing part way through. Course material fees (re DiSC surveys, book fees, etc) are not refundable once access is granted.

 

REFUND DUE TO PD EVENT CANCELLATION

In the event of cancellation of a conference, workshop or online PD program, we will fully refund the registration or sponsorship fee(s) paid. However, we will be unable to refund any travel, visa or accommodation expenses incurred or course material fees where access has been granted.
