QSI International School of Chengdu, a private, nonprofit institution that opened in 2002, offers a high-quality education in the English language for children aged two and a half through secondary graduation and includes students from the international, business, and diplomatic communities.
The school is housed in an urban environment with three school buildings connected by a private walkway. These include office spaces, classrooms, multi-purpose rooms, two libraries, one information technology (IT) laboratory, gymnasium, makerspace, modern science laboratory, music rooms, and cafeteria. The campus includes playground areas as well as sports courts, and a soccer field.
The academic program uses a Performance-Based/Mastery Learning approach to education. This model ensures mastery of specific skills and knowledge involving both individual and group instruction. The educational philosophy is founded upon the premises that:
1) All students can succeed.
2) Success breeds success.
3) It is the responsibility of the school to provide the conditions for success.
The curriculum is updated per subject on a seven-year, rotating cycle and includes English (reading, grammar, and composition), Mathematics, Science, Cultural Studies, Art, Music, Drama, Foreign and/or Native Languages (Chinese, German, French), Information Technology (IT), and Physical Education. Instructional materials and equipment are up-to-date and of high quality. Intensive English classes are offered to students who need additional support with English. Technology use is integrated across the curriculum. Music and Art classes begin with the 2.5- year-old class and are offered across all ages. Musical instruments are introduced to students 5 years and older. Class sizes are intentionally small to allow for individualized learning. Teachers are highly qualified and come from North America, Europe, and Australia.
