Which student athlete (and their representing school) was deemed most valuable or most improved?
It was a joy to see friendships and rivalries develop throughout the three days of competition. In both the girls’ and boys’ divisions, there was one standout athlete. Iris (AISG) was instrumental in leading her school to a clean sweep in the girls’ team competition, the doubles event, and in the singles. Alongside Nicole, she captured the doubles title and went on to win the singles event, defeating Bella from Keystone in the final.
Similarly, Bill (SSIS Suzhou) demonstrated exceptional consistency and determination, winning the boys’ singles final against Philip from BSG Guangzhou and securing the doubles title with his partner, Tomohito. Both athletes consistently refused to give up on points and competed with outstanding focus, energy, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Looking back on the tournament, what stood out to you most about the atmosphere and the ways students from different international schools engaged with one another on and off the court?
With 13 participating schools from eight different cities across Mainland China and Hong Kong, the tournament brought together a wonderfully diverse group of students and a very high level of competition. By the third day, it was especially rewarding to see students cheering not only for their own teammates, but also for new friends they had made from other schools.
Were there any competitive or interpersonal moments that left a strong impression on you and highlighted the value of interschool athletic events?
ACAMIS Table Tennis requires a level of responsibility and integrity that is somewhat unique among sports. Without referees, athletes are responsible for keeping their own scores and resolving disputes independently. This environment reinforces that education-based sports are about far more than winning or losing - they are about developing life skills such as communication, resilience, collaboration, and teamwork. These qualities are increasingly vital in a rapidly changing world.
Do you have any additional reflections or highlights you’d like to share about your experience?
This was the first ACAMIS Table Tennis tournament hosted at Concordia International School Shanghai, and it was truly a pleasure to welcome so many students and schools to our campus. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to my colleagues Mr. Dazhu Yang (Athletics Coordinator) and Ms. Seline Xu (Activities & Sport Assistant) for their dedication and hard work in making this event such a success.
