Wellington College International Shanghai

Theme: Leading in a New Era

The 2027 ACAMIS Spring Leadership Conference will explore how educational leaders, teachers, pupils, parents, and the wider school community can navigate and thrive in an era of rapid change. Across all sub-themes, speakers are invited to share practical strategies, innovative approaches, and experiences that demonstrate resilience, collaboration, adaptability, and human-centered leadership.

Below are the areas (sub-themes) we would like to explore further this year. If you are planning to present at the conference, please feel free to refer to these areas when preparing and submitting your proposal.

  1. Leadership – Resilience in Leadership
Effective leadership requires confidence, competence, and the ability to lead with compassion and clarity. In a rapidly changing educational landscape, leaders must draw on experience, sound judgement, and a strong sense of purpose to support their teams and communities through uncertainty and change.
  2. People – Retaining and Developing Talent
Recruiting, developing, and retaining high-quality educators is increasingly challenging. School leaders must explore creative and sustainable approaches to attracting and retaining talented staff, while investing in professional growth, wellbeing, and career development to ensure instructional continuity and long-term organisational strength.
  3. Parents – Embracing Parents as Partners
Parents are essential partners in supporting student success. As changing contexts, expectations, and increased competition reshape the relationship between schools and families, educators must reconsider how they engage parents and strengthen trust, communication, and collaboration. Meaningful partnerships with parents remain a cornerstone of effective education.
  4. AI – Where Humanity Enriches AI
AI has the potential to amplify human potential without replacing human judgement, creativity, or relationships. This theme invites exploration of how educators can use AI thoughtfully while ensuring that human insight, creativity, critical thinking, and meaningful learning remain at the heart of education. The focus is not simply on what AI can do, but on what becomes possible when human strengths and AI capabilities work together.
  5. Pupils – Leading with Pupils
Education should empower pupils to take greater agency in their learning and prepare them to navigate an increasingly complex future. This requires educators to understand and respond to the world pupils inhabit today, meeting them where they are and creating opportunities for voice, choice, leadership, and meaningful participation in their education.
